Searchers find teen hiker
MOUNT MCLOUGHLIN, Ore. -- A cell phone photo helped search and rescue crews find 17-year-old Max Burleigh on Wednesday. The teen was hiking Mount McLoughlin Tuesday with a youth group from Trail Christian Fellowship, but he got disunited from the group. He expended an hour or two looking for his group, but he at last called 911. He had no feed and no water. Search crews were attempting to use the GPS from Max's phone but the coordinates were taking crews to Mount Brown, not mount McLoughlin. But, before Max's phone died, he was able to send a photo of his emplacement to his mother. Police and rescue crews used this photo to narrow their search and find the teen. Crews searched from until nightfall but restarted the search early Wednesday. Search and rescue teams from Josephine, Jackson, Lake and Klamath regions responded. The searchers were supported by air support teams, hot shot crews and the SWAT team. Max’s mom, Christine Burleigh, says she was worried if her son was still alive. “I was terrified,” said Christine. “I was sitting here in a blanket and he was out there in shorts. Police say Max was in good spirits when search crews found him but was dehydrated. He was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.
